What Happens?

Camp is five days of fun at Bryn y Groes Christan Centre in Bala, North Wales
There are talks from the Bible and activities such as kayaking...
...sports, a barbeque, table tennis, pool, arts and craft, and a bonfire
As well as plenty of silly games!

Where Is It?

Bryn-y-groes is a large country house standing in its own grounds offering comfortable and excellent facilities set in the glorious scenery of Snowdonia National Park.

Being situated on the edge of the town of Bala, a busy market town in North Wales with a rich history and many interesting shops and overlooking Llyn Tegid, the largest natural lake in Wales, Bryn-y-groes is an ideal base for walking, sightseeing, cycling, climbing and water sports. There are castles, slate quarries, woollen mills, craft centres and much more within easy reach. Even the glorious west Wales coast is less than an hour away.

It is the perfect location if you wish to explore the Mary Jones Trail which follows the footsteps of a 15 year old Welsh girl who, in 1800, walked 26 miles to buy a Bible from Thomas Charles in Bala.

Transport to and from Bryn-y-groes are all covered in the basic cost of the Good News Autumn Camp. Normally two or three different pick up locations are arranged for campers to catch the coach.

Camp Rules: We intend to have a great week together that is enjoyable for everyone. For some, sharing the week with forty or so campers will be unusual, though that is part of what makes camp special. However, for camp to be safe and enjoyable for everyone there are standards and rules that all must willingly comply with:

Participation: It is expected that all campers will be involved in the daily programme of activities, including the daily Bible lessons.
Safety: All campers are required to follow the instructions of the group leaders during all the activities of the week.
Personal Conduct:
• Acceptable standards of behaviour are required
• Under no circumstances are campers to enter the dormitories of campers of the opposite sex
• Campers are not to enter the room of another camper unless invited
• Acts of wilful damage to, or theft of, property belonging to other campers or the Centre will not be tolerated. The possession or use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substances is not permitted on camp.
Any breach of camp rules will be dealt with firmly and may result in expulsion from the Centre without refund of fees.
Running for nearly 40 years, the Good News Autumn Camp has seen hundreds of children enjoy an autumn half term away from home – and provided a nice break for hundreds of parents too! A cooperative work between several churches based in the South Wales Valleys, children from these areas – and others also – have gone away together for five days of games, fun, relaxation and teaching.

Most important is the true “Good News” aspect; an opportunity for young people to hear God’s Word explained in three morning meetings, and to discuss it for themselves in three evening Bible studies. The ministry is led by one of the Pastors from the churches involved. As well as this, there are opportunities during the week for questions to be asked, and a well-stocked bookstall always rewards browsing!
